The Health Service Board (HSB) is the employer of all Health Workers in the Ministry of Health and Child Care. It manages a Recruitment Database for health workers on behalf of all institutions in the Ministry of Health and Child Care. Registration of candidates into this database has been decentralised to provinces (PMDs’ offices) and is free. The Board refers candidates for interview and deployment to various health institutions upon the declaration of a vacant post by the institution. Qualification for the interviews is subject to meeting the requirements of the post
applied for.
The Health Service Board has put in place a centralised recruitment database to support the recruitment of various health- workers. In coming up with the database the HSB sought to deal with irregularities that had emerged within the recruitment process. The centralised database was populated by information that came from the district level
through the Provincial Medical Directorates. At the request of institutions, the Board would return names for interview at local level.
The Health Service Board was created through an Act of Parliament, Health Service Act [Chapter 15:16 No. 28/2004] . The Act provided for the establishment of the Health Service Board which became operational on the 1st of June 2005 as per statutory Instrument 88B of 2005.
