PROVINCIAL MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH OFFICER (PMCHO)

                                             (v)     Mashonaland Central Province

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate the planning of family and child health programmes in the province and ensure their effective implementation at the operation level.
  2. Monitor and evaluate progress in the implementation of family and child health programmes and prepare regular progress reports.
  3. In consultation with the Principal Medical Director review, as appropriate, policies that affect implementation and outcome of the programme areas.
  4. Plan, organise and undertake in service and other appropriate training for health workers at the middles and senior levels.
  5. Promote, conduct and commission appropriate research on locally identifiable FCH problems.
  6. Mobilizing and equitably distributing FCH resources.
  7. Liaise as appropriate with provincial hospital specialist and other sector Ministries, NGOs, Parastatals and Donor Agencies on policy and other programme issues pertaining to FCH.
  8. Weekly work plan
  9. Timely costed monthly, quarterly, annual plans and reports which include input, output & outcome indicators; workshop.
  10. Performance appraisal reports
  11. Working within an approved budget
  12. Monthly human and financial status report including human resource training development plan
  13. Support and supervision schedules
  14. Safety of government assets/resources
  15. Client satisfaction

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. MBChB degree from a reputable University.
  2. Post Graduate training in Public Health at Masters Level a must.(PED
  3. At least 3 years’ post-graduate work experience as a GMO.
  4. Recognized training in Family and Child Health Care, TB and HIV.
  5. Proficiency in Computer packages.
  6. Current registration with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe.

DISTRICT MEDICAL OFFICER

 STATION:   

(i)      Muzarabani District

(v)      Gokwe North District Hospital                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      JOB PURPOSE

The District Medical Officer has the responsibility for planning, organizing, managing, coordinating and implementing health and health related activities in the District of jurisdiction under the direction of the Provincial Medical Director.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for provision of clinical services in the district.

  1. Ensures that professional standards are maintained in the provision of clinical services.
  2. Initiates strategies to improve quality by promoting medical and clinical audits in health institutions in the district and encourages the development of evidence based clinical practice and research.
  3. Promotes a positive image for the hospital with the media or general public where clinical matters are concerned.
  4. Performs a number of medico-legal examinations for the police and to give evidence in courts of law as required.
  5. Ensures adherence to rules and regulations and enforces discipline among staff.
  6. Allocates and delegates duties to other officers having due regard for their capabilities.
  7. Controlling officer of all districts.
  8. Interprets and translates national priorities and objectives into district objectives and targets.
  9. Directs the planning of an integrated health service for the district through consultations with other interested parties.
  10. Responsible for the development of costed annual and quarterly plans and budgets and their implementation and review (holds planning meetings with DHE to develop work plans and budgets).
  11. Responsible for the timely submission of annual and quarterly progress and financial reports.
  12. Manages and administers health activities within and outside the hospital.
  13. Ensures that there are good management systems in the district.
  14. Supports and supervision of district wide health services (visiting Rural Health Centres, Mission hospitals, private health facilities and public health services to supervise them regularly for administrative and professional purposes).
  15. Organizing and directing or co-coordinating all the necessary action against major communicable and other similar diseases of public health importance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. MBChB
  2. A qualification in Public Health (MPH) is an added advantage.
  3. At least 2 years post internship experience.
  4. Proficiency in computers.
  5. Current registration with the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe.
